Canton City Schools Age Group and Open Meet:  June 7 and 8, 2008

 

This swim meet is available to all swimmers, and is strongly encouraged.  This meet will be swum in a great 50 meter pool.  For more information, see the meet information, or ask your child's coach!  Meet entries are due by Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

 

Solon "Summer Swimfest" Swim Meet: June 14 and 15, 2008

 

This meet is for Silver, Age, and Gold swimmers.  There are cut off times for some events at this meet.  If you are not sure about your child's events, please ask their coach.  This meet is held outdoors, so bring your sunscreen!  Meet entries are due by Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

 

Busbey Invitational: June 20 -- 22, 2008

 

This meet is a "Faster than" Meet, so read the information carefully.  Meet entries are due by Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

 

Freedlander Swim Meet; July 11-13, 2008

 

This meet is a team tradition, and is a great meet for swimmers of all ages and groups.  There will be a group of LRST parents and coaches camping out; see reservation information at the end of the packet.  If camping is not for you, check out the list of area hotels also towards the end of the packet.  Meet entries are due Wednesday, May 28, 2008.

 

 

Practice Schedule and Information

Gold Group practices, on average, 6 times per week.  This group is primarily made up of high school-age  swimmers, and others who desire to train for competition. 

 

Silver Group practices 5 times per week.  This group is made up of swimmers from ages 10 to 14.  This group mixest training and endurance with stroke and turn technique work. 

 

Bronze group practices 4 times per week.  This group is made up of swimmers ages 6 to 10 with a heavy emphasis on technique and the fundamentals.

Coach Bios

JIM STACY - SENIOR COACH (GOLD GROUP)

 

Jim Stacy began his swimming career at the University Circle YMCA with coach Pete Odell. When Coach Odell moved the team in 1957 Jim followed even though he still lived in East Cleveland. Jim moved to Lakewood in 1960 to swim for Lakewood High School and coach Jim Scullion. As a swimmer for Lakewood Swim Club, Jim ranked in the top five in the country in individual events and relays. As a swimmer for Lakewood High School, he was an individual state runner up, part of a state championship team (1962) and multiple time all-American. After High School, he attended the University of Cincinnati where he was a multiple time conference champion, two-time Division I national qualifier (1965 & 1966), and Olympic trial qualifier (1964).

Jim began his coaching career as the Head Coach of LRSC in 1967, its second season. He gave up coaching from 1968 through 1972 to serve in the United States Navy. He rejoined the coaching ranks as the Head Coach of the Lakewood YMCA from 1974 to 1981. Jim then served as the Head Coach of the Berea Midpark Swim Club from 1982 through 1988. While at BMSC he was Lake Erie Swimming Coach of the Year (1983 & 1984) and developed multiple state and junior national qualifiers.  Jim returned to LRST for the second time in 1989 where he served as an assistant coach until 1993. He served as Head Coach of LRST from 1994 through 1998. As Head Coach of LRST he developed multiple Ohio high school state finalists and multiple junior national qualifiers. He also helped LRST swimmers achieve 8 National top 16 rankings, including several relays which ranked #1 in their USA swimming age group. Jim's coaching experience also includes coaching North Olmsted High School (1992-1997) and Padua Franciscan High School (2004-Present).

Jim is a graduate of Cleveland State University and he holds a degree in Psychology. He has raised 5 children with his wife Nancy. He still resides in Lakewood and is very excited to be back with LRST.

 

 

HEIDI DEMALINE, DEVELOPMENTAL COACH (BRONZE GROUP) hdemaline@hotmail.com

 

Heidi has been coaching for LRST since the fall of 2004, with a season hiatus during the 2006-2007 season.  Heidi was an accomplished swimmer for BMSC, Berea High School, and Baldwin-Wallace College.

Heidi is an Intervention Specialist with the Berea City Schools.  She currently resides in Lakewood. 

 

LRST Parents' Club

 

The purpose of the LRST Club is to build and maintain a group, which, in cooperation with the Lakewood Community Recreation and Education Department, will help promote the activities and further the goals of LRST. 

 

Each family with a child swimming for LRST has a voice in the activities and goals of the Club.  Each family receives one vote.
