New Practice Schedule Posted (5/7/09)

The latest practice schedule has been posted below.  This session, we have seen tremendous growth in the Gold group, and with that expansion, changes have to be made to the schedule.  Effective May 19, the Tuesday Silver practice will return to the 7 - 8:30 pm time block.  We are making this change to ensure that all swimmers benefit the most from practice.

Update on registration information (11/3/08)

Please note that a new "quarter" of LRST begins on Friday, November 7.  Swimmers must remain current on their fees in order to practice with the team.  Payment is available on-line, at the Recreation Department, or at the pool (cash or check only - see the pool manager on-duty).  Each swimmer participating in LRST activities also must be a member of USA Swimming.  Membership in USA Swimming runs the length of the calendar year.  Also, on a yearly basis, each swimmer must have a current Participant Information Sheet on file.  Here are the corresponding forms:

Parking Update (updated 10/27/08)

The access drive that runs behind Lakewood High School connecting Robinwood Ave to Bunts Rd is closed due to the construction.  THERE IS NO PARKING ACCESSIBLE FROM ROBINWOOD.  To access parking near the Baseball field and Music wing, vehicles need to enter from Bunts Rd.  There is a walkway connecting the parking area to the pool side of the building.  Please note there is no parking in marked fire lanes.  The Lakewood Police Department will ticket or tow offending vehicles at owner expense.   Please contact Matt Demaline (216.529.4015) with questions.

Team Swimsuit Information Released (9/15/08)

Team swimsuits are available through Swimville, USA.  It takes approximately 2 weeks to process a suit order, so plan ahead!

Here are the instructions on how to order a team suit.  Here is the order form.  With sizing questions, please contact a parent board member.

Coach Bios

PATRICK BURDA - HEAD COACH (SILVER GROUP)

(patrick.burda@lakewood.k12.oh.us)

Patrick Burda joined the LRST coaching staff as Head Coach in May of 2008. Patrick joined the staff from the Solon Stars Swim Club, where he had been an assistant coach. During Patrick's swimming career, he had been a decorated swimmer for LRST.

Patrick had previously held the position of Head Coach with the Brooklyn Barracudas for 4 seasons. During that time, Patrick increased the number of swimmers participating in the program, as well as improving his team's final standings. Patrick led the team to its first league championship. Prior to his tenure as Head Coach, Patrick served as an assistant coach with the team for several years.

As an athlete, Patrick was a four year swimmer at Cleveland State University, helping them to the Horizon League Championship in 2006. Patrick's specialties included both distance freestyle and backstroke. He was prepared for this experience by his time as a swimmer in the LRST program for seven years, where he was a ten time Zone National Qualifier, and a three time LRST Most Valuable Swimmer.

Patrick currently resides in Brooklyn, and is continuing his studies at Cleveland State.

JIM STACY - SENIOR COACH (GOLD GROUP)

Jim Stacy began his swimming career at the University Circle YMCA with coach Pete Odell. When Coach Odell moved the team in 1957 Jim followed even though he still lived in East Cleveland. Jim moved to Lakewood in 1960 to swim for Lakewood High School and coach Jim Scullion. As a swimmer for Lakewood Swim Club, Jim ranked in the top five in the country in individual events and relays. As a swimmer for Lakewood High School, he was an individual state runner up, part of a state championship team (1962) and multiple time all-American. After High School, he attended the University of Cincinnati where he was a multiple time conference champion, two-time Division I national qualifier (1965 & 1966), and Olympic trial qualifier (1964).

Jim began his coaching career as the Head Coach of LRSC in 1967, its second season. He gave up coaching from 1968 through 1972 to serve in the United States Navy. He rejoined the coaching ranks as the Head Coach of the Lakewood YMCA from 1974 to 1981. Jim then served as the Head Coach of the Berea Midpark Swim Club from 1982 through 1988. While at BMSC he was Lake Erie Swimming Coach of the Year (1983 & 1984) and developed multiple state and junior national qualifiers.  Jim returned to LRST for the second time in 1989 where he served as an assistant coach until 1993. He served as Head Coach of LRST from 1994 through 1998. As Head Coach of LRST he developed multiple Ohio high school state finalists and multiple junior national qualifiers. He also helped LRST swimmers achieve 8 National top 16 rankings, including several relays which ranked #1 in their USA swimming age group. Jim's coaching experience also includes coaching North Olmsted High School (1992-1997) and Padua Franciscan High School (2004-2008).  Recently, Jim was named the Head Coach at Lakewood High School for the 2008/2009 season.

Jim is a graduate of Cleveland State University and he holds a degree in Psychology. He has raised 5 children with his wife Nancy. He still resides in Lakewood and is very excited to be back with LRST.
