Summer Swim Team Information Session

Municipal Pool Hours and Fees

Foster Pool is a 50 meter by 25 yard Olympic-size pool located in Lakewood Park.  Although owned by the City of Lakewood, both outdoor pools are operated by the Recreation Department.  Foster Pool is complete with a one-meter diving board, a wading pool with mushroom feature, large bathhouse, and adjoining concession area.  New for the summer of 2008 is the Lakewood Summer Swim team, which will practice at Foster Pool three evenings a week.  Other programs offered include Learn-To-Swim, water aerobics, and LRST (Lakewood Recreation Swim Team).

Foster Pool is available is rent for birthday parties, scout troup outings, family reunions, and other group events.  Foster Pool is available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, from June 20 through August 15.  Some late morning times are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well.  Please submit a request in writing to Matt Demaline, Aquatic Manager (matt.demaline@lakewood.k12.oh.us, fax number: 529-4464) at least two weeks prior to the requested date.  No requests are accepted prior to May 1.

Becks Pool is a leisure pool located in Madison Park.  Operated by the Recreation Department, Becks Pool features a slide, seperate diving well with one meter diving board, zero depth wading pool with mushroom feature, and a concession area.  Becks Pool offers Learn-To-Swim classes. 

Becks Pool is also available for rent throughout the summer, from 8:30 PM -- 10:00 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings.  There are also rental possibilities on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  Please submit a request in writing to Matt Demaline, Aquatic Manager (matt.demaline@lakewood.k12.oh.us, fax number: 529-4464) at least two weeks prior to the requested date.  No requests are accepted prior to May 1.

The outdoor pool season begins on Saturday, June 14th.  It concludes on Labor Day. 

Season Pass Information for Day Care/Camp Organizations

Season passes are available for purchase after May 1.  We will be using the entry system that was introduced last summer.  We do have a few changes that we are implementing to streamline the entry process.

•  Please complete the "Open Swim Registration Form", and return it to the Recreation Department by Monday, April 28.  If you are not exactly sure of the information requested, please estimate and submit the form.
• Children can purchase their passes at the Recreation Department once the Registration Form has been submitted.  In addition to standard contact information, please have the parents identify the day care/camp organization at the time of purchase.  A photo will be taken of all new pass holders, for use to verify identity at the point of admittance.
• Once the pools are open, your staff will be provided a printout of all pass holders belonging to your group.  Each time your group comes to the pool, please cross off all ABSENT students from the list, and present it to the pool cashier.  At that time, your group can enter without each individual entering their PIN numbers.  If a child does not register as a member of your organization, he/she will need to wait in line each time to input his/her number.
• As a courtesy to the day camp/care providers in the community, all providers who will be accompanying children to the pool will be issued a PIN number free of charge, only for use when accompanying children.

General Open Swim Information for Day Care/Camp Organizations

• Please check the website and our program guide for all hours of operation and user fees.
• All children 6 years of age and younger must be accompanied at all times by an adult, age 18 or older.  For every six children ages 6 and under, there must be at least ONE adult present and attentive.
• We ask that day camp/care organizations enter Foster Pool no earlier than 1:15 PM.
• We encourage day camp/care organizations to enter Becks Pool at Madison Park between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.

Learn-To-Swim Information for Day Care/Camp Organizations

As in the past, all students attending Learn-To-Swim classes must be pre-registered.  No registrations will be accepted at the pools.  Learn-To-Swim classes are offered at both Foster and Becks Pools for three week sessions; classes meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for 45 minutes.

• The 10:15 AM time slot at Foster Pool is reserved for Day Care/Camp organizations for all three sessions until May 15.  After May 15, all remaining spaces will be opened to the General public.  Space limitations do apply, so register early.
• The 11:05 AM time slot at Foster Pool is partially reserved for Day Care/Camp organizations until May 15.  Space limitations do apply, so register early.
• Becks Pool offers great instructor to student ratios, as well as different time slots.

The option exists for your organization to register as a group and be invoiced by the Recreation Department.  To do so, please complete the Learn-To-Swim registration form and return it to the department prior to May 1.  Your participants can also register individually by calling our Department or stopping in to our offices, beginning May 1.  This option requires payment at the time of registration.
