COVID-19 CHILDCARE SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

February 1, 2021 12:00 AM

Does your family need a safe, supervised place for your child during the school day while learning is remote or hybrid?  If so, scholarships to make the cost of this care more affordable are available through the City of Lakewood Division of Early Childhood.

  • This temporary program is designed to help qualified families with a percentage of the daily cost of childcare for Lakewood children, within Lakewood city limits.

  • The family must choose a licensed childcare center in Lakewood for service.

  • Families who earn less than 400% of the federal poverty level (up to $68,960 for a family of 2 and $104,880 for a family of 4) will be eligible for 50% assistance.

  • Applications are available by contacting the Division of Early Childhood at 216-529-5018 or jessica.parker@lakewoodoh.net. You will need to provide local and federal tax returns and proof of current income and work/school schedule along with a completed application. The requirement to provide tax returns may be waived if the family’s financial circumstances have changed due to the pandemic.

  • For more information about eligibility and how to apply:  http://www.onelakewood.com/early-childhood/

  • Scholarship funds are provided by the Healthy Lakewood Foundation and are distributed on a first-come, first served basis.

Need help finding care? The Lakewood Family YMCA has availability!

  • Families interested in enrolling their children in the YMCA’s care program for elementary school-age children, called “YCARES,” can contact the YMCA Payment Registrar Office at (216) 263-6860 or children@clevelandymca.org. Children ages 5-12 are eligible.

  • The program is currently being offered at the former Taft Elementary School and is available either on a 5-day basis or two days per week following the school district's Purple and Gold schedule.

The City of Lakewood Division of Early Childhood also provides resources and referral for additional after-school options. Contact them at: Jessica.parker@lakewoodoh.net or 216-529-5018.
