The City of Lakewood and the Lakewood City Schools continue their partnership on the renovation of Jimmie Foxx and Usher Fields.
After jointly working on the project details for both fields, including, but not limited to, all work associated with the bid and design process, the City accepted the proposal from The R.J. Platten Contracting Co., on January 3, 2022.
The cost associated with repairing these two fields will be: $74,706 for Usher Field and $123,705 for Foxx Field. Highlights of the project work include:
Addressing erosion control and topography leveling
Furnishing and installing topsoil
Seed and straw planting
Installation of underdrain system for drainage
Construction will begin as soon as weather permits, starting with Foxx Field. The contractual completion dates for both renovations will be May 1, 2022, which is needed to allow for the grass to establish after our winter months and result in the best playing surfaces for this summer season and beyond.
“I’m excited that the work on Foxx and Usher Fields will begin shortly. We continue to be committed to improving our processes for the betterment of our community.” said Superintendent Maggie Niedzwiecki.
“The City of Lakewood and the Lakewood City Schools continue to meet regularly to not only discuss the field renovations, but to provide updates and information on all shared-use facilities, scheduling and to address upcoming projects.” said Mayor Meghan F. George.
