We are happy to report that the City and its Project Team (O Sports and RJ Platten)- are completing the fields’ work at Jimmie Foxx Field (Kauffman Park) and George J. Usher Field (Madison Park). In total, nearly $200,000 was spent on this improvement project, which includes grading work which meets industry standards and increases drainage capabilities. Only seeding and top dressing (dirt infill) remain. Due to the heavy precipitation this Spring, the germinating of grass will hopefully be taking place over the next 2-3 weeks. Please also know that the Fields will be reseeded in the Fall after the playing season finishes to further benefit the stability of the surfaces. The Recreation Department will be monitoring the Fields’ conditions on a regular basis. After discussion with Lakewood Community Baseball Association (LCBA) members regarding the aforementioned seeding work and giving us the best opportunity for grass to germinate in the areas beyond the infield where such additional underdrainage was installed, the reopening of the fields should occur on or approximately on May 15, weather willing.
Thank you.
